It is nine at night, the dishes are done, and there is a pillow sitting on the kitchen table with a pair of sticks resting on top of it. That is the whole setup. No kit, no amp, no soundproofing, nobody woken up. In about twenty minutes you are going to play a real drum beat on that pillow, and it is going to sound like drumming, because it will be drumming. This lesson gets your hands and your body into the right shape first, so everything after it comes easier.

What you actually need tonight

Two things. A pair of drumsticks and something soft to hit. Ask for 5A sticks at any music shop or type "5A drumsticks" into any store you already buy from; they run under fifteen dollars and they are the standard all-purpose size.
